Shurakai is a Barghest. Maybe even the Barghest; it is not certain if that creature is unique and ageless or if more than one exist.

As a Barghest, Shurakai is capable shape shifting and can turn into the black, nightmarish creature with teeth and claws, that foolish, English farmers are afraid of. The creature looks only vaguely like a dog, though. It's shoulder height is about 1,60 m and it's slim and wiry. The head is small and with its long snout it faintly looks like the head of one of those Asian dragons. Four long canine teeth dominate the mouth and blood hungry, ruby read eyes glow in the darkness.
The body shape looks similar to a wolf yet its paws are much bigger and provided with big, sharp claws, not unlike the ones of a bear.
Its fur is pitch black, thick and even but it always looks like smoke is rising from it, granting the Barghest a certain blur – it seems impossible to focus ones gaze on it. Furthermore it really helps the creature to camouflage into darkness, shadows and mist and very often its victims only see those evil, red eyes before they die.
The “Black Dog” is granted with superficial strength and speed and is also incredible clever and cunning... and that goes for its human form as well.
He also has incredible good eye sight and hearing, as well as an exceptional sense of smell that helps him to track his prey.

Even though Shurakai is ageless, he is not immortal. Scars all over his body tell their own stories about it. Unlike werewolves or vampires, there are no known weaknesses of a Barghest.
